The Mandalika circuit doesn't meet FIM standards?

Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit many MotoGP riders complained after they tried it for the pre-season test session on 11-13 February. One of his main complaints is the appearance of gravel at certain points, which is very dangerous for the rider and the bike

Many foreign media reported that the Mandalika circuit was not feasible or not according to international circuit standards because the asphalt was easily peeled off and made small pebbles appear on the circuit track. This is a serious accusation leveled by foreign media against the management of the Mandalika circuit.

Media The Race, for example, said that the gravel material on the top layer of the asphalt at the Mandalika Circuit was not up to standard. "Regarding the construction process, that the problem lies in the type of aggregate stones used in the construction process, with the original mix selected by outside consultants not being used, and (instead) locally quarried stones being chosen instead," wrote The Race.

The Managing Director of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) responded to the news and considered it natural that there were still shortcomings at the Mandalika circuit, because the circuit is in new condition and has only been used for racing once. The power and top speed of MotoGP motorbikes are superior to WSBK motorbikes, so there may be parts that don't match.

"This is a recently completed track. It has only been used once for WSBK, whose power is different from that of a superbike (MotoGP-Red). So definitely not only in Indonesia, of course everywhere, the new track has its advantages and disadvantages. Maybe with the length of the track four point a few kilos, there is one part that is not suitable for such a large power (MotoGP-Red)," said Priandhi at the Post-Mandalika MotoGP Official Test Press Briefing and welcoming the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia (16/2/2022).

The President Director of PT PP, Novel Arsyad, added that the gravel material on the asphalt layer of the Mandalika Circuit did use local materials, namely aggregate stones taken from Palu. Although using local components, Novel said it was in accordance with the existing standard specifications.

"So we all have gravel related to asphalting based on existing specifications. And gravel that is for the edge of the track, if a driver slips, that is already with the best gravels. And yesterday - we don't want the rider to fall yes--but at least it has been proven with them that maybe when they slipped, that's the condition, the gravel covers quite well," said Novel on the same occasion.

"We take the gravel for asphalt from Palu according to existing specifications and we ask for checking, testing, until it's okay according to existing standards, then we put it on the barge to be sent (to Lombok), so we don't want to waste time and money. remain on specifications (for the re-paving of the Mandalika Circuit)," he said.
